My mother and father’s generation watched their own favorite iconic film and music legends such as Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, Lucille Ball, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin fade away…… larger than life deaths that affected them so deeply they can still vividly recall where they were when they learned of them – long before the days of insta-death tweets and viral online news sharing.
And now my generation is watching our own drop.
As much as people fight it, entertainers, characters and the visual fantasies they portray bury pretty deeply into our collective consciousness.
Kevin came home today and asked me if I’d heard about Carrie Fisher.
Of course, of course.
And 6 year old Maggie asked me,
“But who’s going to be Princess Leia now?”
“Nobody, darlin. There was only one.” 🤕
